Why Are We Here?
Shelby High School Theatre Department is dedicated to producing high quality plays, musicals, and other performances. We believe quality theatre is possible for anyone in any community and is a vital part of any complete education.
What Do We Do?
NCTC Play Festival Participation - The department produces two one-act shows that are performed at the annual North Carolina Theater Conference High School Play Festival. SHS Theatre has advanced to the State Play Festival numerous times and has won it three times since 1998.
NCTC Play Festival Hosting - In 1997, the SHS Theatre Depatrment became one of the first high schools to host the High School Play Festival in and was a regular host each year before taking a break in 2008.
Musical - Every year there are school-wide open auditions for an inter-departmental musical.
Spring Play - Each spring, there is one open-audition non-musical play or two student-directed one-acts.
International Thespian Society - We are home to ITS Troupe #1727 (inactive), originally chartered on January 1, 1991. There are plans to reactivate this troup by the end of the 2017-2018 school year. Troupe Director: Dan Treharne
